About Mopointtaze

A personal project about board games, tabletop hobbies, and the people who play them in Hungary.

The Background

My name is Peter Szabo. I bought my first modern board game in 2016, a copy of Catan from a small shop in Budapest's seventh district. I had expected something like the Monopoly and Ludo I grew up with. What I found instead was a hobby that has occupied a significant portion of my spare time ever since.

Over the past decade I have built a collection of around 120 games, run regular game nights for friends and family, and attended conventions across Hungary and neighbouring countries. What started as casual notes about games I had tried became this website when I realised there was very little practical, English-language information about the board gaming scene in Hungary.

I work in education. I am not a professional game designer or a paid reviewer. The opinions here are entirely personal, based on games I have played many times with real groups. I do not receive free copies from publishers or payment for coverage.

What This Site Covers

Mopointtaze focuses on three areas:

I write for people in Hungary specifically because the local gaming scene has its own characteristics. Availability, pricing, community events, and the mix of languages all affect what I recommend and how. That said, the game reviews themselves are relevant regardless of where you live.

How the Guides Are Written

Every game mentioned on this site is one I own and have played at least five times, usually many more. I do not write about games based on a single play or on other people's reviews. First impressions of board games are frequently misleading. A game that seems brilliant on the first play sometimes loses its appeal quickly, and a game that feels confusing at first sometimes becomes a favourite once the mechanics click.

I update the guides when my opinions change or when new information becomes relevant. If a game I previously recommended starts gathering dust on my shelf, I will adjust the recommendation accordingly. The dates on each article reflect the last meaningful update.
